About Cobham Lacrosse – CS LAX
Lacrosse is a fun, fast, furious and cost-effective mass participation sport. It is the world’s oldest, competitive team game and is simple to introduce as a mixed ‘community’ sport in schools and universities. The elite game is the fastest and most taxing of all team sports and played internationally by over 30 countries. At all levels, Lacrosse maximises hand-eye coordination and consistently enhances core muscle groups, team interaction and all elements of the cardio-vascular system. Physiologically, psychologically and socially Lacrosse generates individual and community confidence.
Cobham Sports Association (CSA) is keen to develop more sports for females and as a result started a girls' lacrosse club in summer 2007. We now have some 70 girls playing from both local independent and state schools. These range from U12 / beginners (minimum year 5) through to young ladies playing for Surrey and then onto players within squads that represent their Country through the Centex and similar schemes.

Jan Fuller from Elmbridge Council who has been one of the driving forces behind the club setting up said:
“We are happy to support Cobham Sports' Lacrosse as it’s a really friendly club and all the girls seem to be getting fit, having fun and meeting new friends. They are not elitist and the most un-sporty girls are made welcome and encouraged to play this great game.
“We want more state schools playing competitive sport; it’s great for fitness, competition and confidence and is played on grass – so no expensive Astroturf pitch.”
The sport’s introduction has proved a great success, with the club hosting international matches and the women’s team recently receiving its sparkly new kit helped by a Big Lottery grant.
If you fancy having a go at Lacrosse in a friendly environment, then do get in touch and we'd love to see you. The group, although very talented, is by no means elitist and we welcome all comers to Cobham.
In 2009/10 we had a waiting list. Training starts next season on 11 September 2010 but registration for new members starts on 1 September!
